Deepika Padukone, was born in Copenhagen, Denmark. She is the daughter of former badminton Champion Prakash Padukone.

At the fifth annual Kingfisher Fashion Awards, for Indian models and designers, she was awarded the title of Model of the Year. Shortly after wards, she was chosen as one of the models for the Kingfisher Swimsuit Calendar for 2006, thus cementing her reputation as a supermodel. Her first release in 2010 was Excel Entertainment’s Karthik Calling Karthik. The thriller featured Farhan Akhtar as Karthik, a troubled schizophrenic man, and Padukone as his supportive girlfriend, Shonali Mukherjee. The film, however, was a commercial failure. She then featured in Sajid Khan's multistarrer Housefull with Akshay Kumar, Ritesh Deshmukh, Lara Dutta, Arjun Rampal, Jiah Khan and Boman Irani . She played the role of Soundarya Bhagyalakshmi Venkateshwari Baassappa Rao, Kumar's girlfriend and later fiancée. The film became a major hit at the box office.

She then appeared in her second Yash Raj production, Lafangey Parindey which was directed by Pradeep Sarkar. She starred opposite Neil Nitin Mukesh as Pinky Palkar, a blind girl, hell bent on winning a skating competition. Her next release was Kunal Kohli's syrupy romance Break Ke Baad opposite Imran Khan, where she played Aaliya Khan, an impetuous brat. The film was not a commercial success. Her playing took her to a state level of competition and the 10th standard, but her educational ICSE exams forced her to stop playing for months. This put a dent into any future career as a professional badminton player, but it did open the door to a new career in modeling.

Deepika Padukone was still in college when she started modeling as a pastime, but it quickly became a lucrative career. Over time, she landed jobs with companies in India like Close-Up, Dabur Lal, Liril, and Limca before moving on to larger and more well-known companies.
